Quarter Eagles 1839 - 1859 Liberty Head 1840-1859
Diameter: 18 millimeters
Weight: 64.5 grains Fineness: .900
Edge: Reeded Designer: Christian Gobrecht

1842-D
Mintage: 4,643

The 1842-D is an extremely rare coin in high grade with only a few About Uncirculated specimens known to exist. This date comes weakly struck, with the reverse showing weakness on the neck of the eagle, the right leg and the shield. Most known specimens have surface abrasions and/or Mint-made flaws. Only a few coins of this date have luster and good eye appeal. Original, uncleaned examples have coloration ranging from orange-gold to green-gold. There are less than 80 coins surviving with no Mint State coins known.
